Washington, D.C. Hotels for the Presidential Inauguration: Jan. 20, 2009

Fire up Travelocity.com - the presidential inauguration is on Jan. 20, 2009, 2 months away, and although the president-elect is still unknown, hotels in Washington, D.C. are booking quickly. Accorinding to the USA Today:

Interest in the official balls and the hundreds of related events spikes any time a new set of players takes office, and this year’s extra-long and historic primary season has ratcheted expectations further and faster.

“We’re pushing ahead a little earlier than normal,” says Colleen Evans of Marriott International’s two Ritz-Carlton hotels in the District. “Whichever party wins, it will bring in people who probably have not been your regular customers in the past. So it’s a great opportunity for a hotel to become the place to be.”

Says Ed Rudzinski, general manager of the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, “All bets are off as far as the amount of business you will do.”

He already has sold all 1,340 rooms during the four-day inaugural period at $350 to $400 a night, and he has booked a pre-inaugural bash for 2,000 revelers.

Photographing the Inauguration of the 44th President (January 20, 2009)

On the morning of Tuesday, January 20, 2009, the president-elect will be sworn in as 44th President of the United States. Although the Oath of Office is only 36 words long, it is one of the most solemn portions of the Presidential Inauguration, the text of which can be found in the United States Constitution. The Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts, will administer the Oath and the newly elected president will swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Actually, the vice president-elect is sworn in about 10 minutes before the president-elect. The 20th amendment specifies that the term of each elected president begins on January 20 of the year following the election, which is when the Oath of Office takes place. Most Oaths of Office occur in the Capitol Building or the White House, although seven presidents have had to take the Oath outside of Washington entirely. (for example Lyndon Johnson, following the assassination of John F. Kennedy.)

At photoprez.com, there is a Presidential Inauguration gallery devoted to coverage of the event.  Check the most recent political photos at photoprez.com.
