Photographing the Inauguration of the 44th President (January 20, 2009)

On the morning of Tuesday, January 20, 2009, the president-elect will be sworn in as 44th President of the United States. Although the Oath of Office is only 36 words long, it is one of the most solemn portions of the Presidential Inauguration, the text of which can be found in the United States Constitution. The Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Chief Justice John Roberts, will administer the Oath and the newly elected president will swear to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Actually, the vice president-elect is sworn in about 10 minutes before the president-elect. The 20th amendment specifies that the term of each elected president begins on January 20 of the year following the election, which is when the Oath of Office takes place. Most Oaths of Office occur in the Capitol Building or the White House, although seven presidents have had to take the Oath outside of Washington entirely. (for example Lyndon Johnson, following the assassination of John F. Kennedy.)

At photoprez.com, there is a Presidential Inauguration gallery devoted to coverage of the event.  Check the most recent political photos at photoprez.com.

photoprez.com - the 2008 Election Day gallery edition

In every election, there is a tension between maximizing voter turnout and limiting election fraud.  On the one hand, a healthy demcracy depends on public participation; on the other, the system must ensure that the principle of “one man, one vote” is upheld by taking precautions to prevent voting fraud at the polls.  More than previous Presidential campaigns, the tensions of limiting voting fraud versus maximing turnout have emerged this year.

At photoprez.com, we are proud to dedicate a photo gallery specifically to tracking and documenting the process of voting all over the country.  Located at photoprez.com/electionday2008, the Election Day 2008 gallery allows voters to photograph their civic participation!  Registration to photoprez.com is free and members are already uploading photographs of polling places, voting booths, and absentee ballots.

Importantly, on Tuesday November 4, 2008, there are likely to many “voting irregularities” and “issues” of all types.   These include unregistered voters, technical complications with computer balloting, and lines, lines, and LINES!  Whether your trip to the polls and voting experience is a breeze or a nightmare, record your experience and upload it at photoprez.com to create a permanent record.  Registered members of photoprez.com can send their cell phone pictures to go@photoprez.com and they will be instantly uploaded to the photoprez.com LIVE MOBILE gallery.
